Play backups or Roms of your favorite classic video games directly on your computer!

Emulation, the process of making your computer think it is a old game console, has been around for years and is very easy to do. If you want to learn more about this fun and simple process then read on.

New to emulation?

Emulators are small applications that allow you to play classic console games built for the Nintendo NES or SNES directly on your computer. With the programs on this site you can also play many other games such as the Atari or the GBA. These games are known as Read-Only-Memory or Roms for short. They are just software copies of the original cartridges or CDs such as the Sony Playstation CD or the Sega Genesis cartridge.

How to play Roms

The first step is to choose which gaming system you would like to play. For this example I will show you how to play the NES or 8-bit Nintendo. You will need to head over to the Emulators page, and download the proper emulator for your operating system. Probably the best and most compatable is NESticle. Download this program to your computer, and extract or (unzip) all of the files. Then, go to the NES ROMs page and choose your favorite Nintendo rom (that you own). Download that put it in your NESticle directory. The rest of this process is very simple. Just run the emulator you choose (NESticle for this example), and click on “Load ROM” or “Open ROM” from the File menu. Pick the ROM you want to enjoy and open it. Now you are playing your favorite old game or ROM on your computer! You can now further set up your emulator, by assigning different keys for the buttons, setup a usb controller, or play your roms online with your friends.

Advanced Rom Emulation Users

Are you already a emulation master? Do you Want to increase your rom collection? Interested in advanced emulation features? Why not Read on? One of the best features of emulation is the option to translate Roms. Loads of games were only programed for gamers in Japan and not the USA, or for the USA and not Japan, so gamers have modified these roms to be played in different languages. Now your favorite Super Mario 2 or Final Fantasy can now be enjoyed in your native language. One of my favorite features included in emulator programs is the ability to save state. Which gives you option to save at unlimited points while playing you favorite games. With emulation, save points are a thing of the past! If you are tired of endlessly playing through a whole level just to get wiped out by the boss, just click on save state right before you dual it out with the big boss, then you can instantly restore and try again. Some gamers even save important spots and distributed those save states to the emulation community. So now you can jump directly to any level of your favorite game by downloading a save state.

Feel the need to modify your ROMS?

You can transform mario into a wizard, make luigi look like a zombie, or give the princess purple hair by using a sprite editor. On the Apps page, we offer advanced tools just for our rom-collectors, along with tons of other stuff you can use to enhance your emulation and rom playing experience.

Do you own your Roms?

Please be aware that you must own the original game cartridge or cd, and the system or console that you are emulating. These games or roms are not free and are here for backup and educational purposes only.
